Laveta McDowell, MD, is a board-certified nephrologist who works out of the San Antonio Kidney Disease Center Physicians Group clinic in Kerrville, Texas. Dr. McDowell provides a full range of services to her patients, including medication management and lifestyle changes designed to preserve kidney function and prevent kidney failure.
Her commitment to medicine includes a passion for offering advanced care strategies that are successful while fostering a trusting and encouraging relationship with her patients. The patient-first philosophy that’s such an integral part of the San Antonio Kidney Disease Center’s mission fits well with Dr. McDowell’s personal mission as a physician.
She earned her medical degree from University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston McGovern Medical School. Dr. McDowell then completed her residency in internal medicine at the US Air Force’s Wilford Hall Medical Center and went on to finish her nephrology fellowship at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Dr. McDowell brings a rich tradition of military service and superior medical skills to the San Antonio Kidney Disease Center and greatly values the time she spent as a consultant and physician with the armed forces. She served our country and cared for service personnel in many ways, including two stints in Iraq as an intensive care physician. She has formally retired from the military and is happy to consider San Antonio her permanent home these days.
