Matthew Schaefer, D.O.Joined San Antonio Kidney In 2007 |
Dr. Matthew E. Schaefer is a board-certified nephrologist and former president of San Antonio Kidney. He provides comprehensive nephrology and vascular access care at our Kerrville and Boerne clinics. In addition, he holds medical privileges at multiple hospitals in San Antonio, including Baptist Health System, Methodist Healthcare System, and Christus Santa Rosa Health System, as well as Peterson Regional Hospital in Kerrville.
A native of Columbia, Missouri, Dr. Schaefer completed his entire medical education in his home state. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Truman State University in Kirksville, followed by his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine at A.T. Still University. He went on to complete his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in nephrology at the University of Missouri in Columbia. He later pursued additional training in interventional nephrology through RMS Lifeline in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Schaefer joined San Antonio Kidney in 2007 and has since dedicated his career to providing exceptional kidney care to the community. He is an active member of the Texas Medical Association and resides in San Antonio with his wife.
